Upcycled Dresses
Every year I go through my closet to try to clear out some of the clothes that I don’t wear, and every year I end up putting back every piece telling myself that I will wear it someday. I mean you never know, right? Maybe someday I will be in need of my bright red Dickies. But if I can repurpose my clothes into something useful, then I’m all for it. Like this sweater that used to be one of my favorites.
I made it into a cute little sweater dress for Brynn. And it is being put to much better use. I don’t think I wore it in over a year, and now it’s one of my favorite outfits for Brynn.
It was really easy to make, since I was able to save the hem on the sleeves and bottom. I just traced one of her tunics onto the sweater and cut it out and the resized the hood. Super easy.
Pretty sure I never looked so adorable in it. But that’s okay. I also upcycled one of Nathan’s shirts into a little button up dress for Brynn.
I added belt loops so that I could add a belt to make it a bit more feminine. I probably should have added more buttons, since they are spaced a bit unevenly, but it’s really more of a play dress than anything, so it works fine like it is.
So now I don’t mind giving up some of the clothes I don’t wear. In fact I have a whole pile of old sweaters that are waiting to be made into something new!
Hi! What pattern did you use for the shirt dress? It is completely adorable!!!
Hi! Thank you!! I drafted my own pattern for this, but you could use a combination of the Birch and Juniper to get this look like I did in this post: https://www.sewalittleseam.com/juniper-birch-mash/
